Oscar Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 80th Annual Academy Awards have been announced. The official website, oscar.com, states that Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has been nominated for three categories: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Johnny Depp as the title character), Best Art Direction (art director Dante Ferretti and set decorator Francesca Lo Schiavo), and Best Costume Design (Colleen Atwood, making this her second nomination for her work on a Tim Burton film, with Sleepy Hollow being the first). The Oscar Awards ceremony will broadcast on February 24th, 2008, at 5PT/8ET on ABC in the United States.

congrats Johnny! but heck, Academy, grrr! why not Tim? Why?

^It's a shame. In all honesty, I personally think that Johnny wasn't Oscar-worthy for this performance. He was great, but not stellar. This seemed more like Tim's moment, in my opinion.

Ah well. The Academy has yet to give Tim his due properly. I think the best thing is just take it like Depp and Burton do: with little care and much enthusiasm (and relief!).

I was and am still so angry that they didn´t nominate Helena and Tim. She was a scene stealer and he is the best director in the whole world. But I´m glad that Johnny got nominated but I am not sure he´ll win though he deserves it. The academy always pick the depressed characters.
Well but let´s all cross fingers and toes for Johnny!!
