A couple more Burton interviews - no Beetlejuice 2

Interviews with Tim seem to be cropping up all over the place as the Oscars near, and here are two more for you to enjoy.

First up is a text interview at TheJacksonChannel.com, where Burton discusses Corpse Bride and it's Oscar nomination.

There's also a video interview with Tim at The Movie Reporter. He denies the rumors of a Beetlejuice sequel (sorry, Mike) and says he is still attached to direct Believe It or Not, but the star of the film has yet to be confirmed.

Man! Tim is awesome! I think it's good that he isn't doing any sequals. All his movies are gold. Hey I was thinking, what if he got Ewan McGregor for Sweeny Todd? HE can sing!

A Beetlejuice sequel is probably not going to happen. The main reason is that Tim doesn't like doing sequels. It has actually been eighteen years since the original and that means that if they did the sequel now, all of us would be familliar with it because we are fans. However, most people who aren't familliar with Beetlejuice would see it as a sequel to a film that is certainly dated.

I'm almost glad Tim isn't doing Beetlejuice 2, because the original cast is too old now and that would have to totally recast.

*they would have to recast.

Hello? Bad sequels? What about "Batman Returns"? In my humble opinion, lightyears better than the first.

I hope a Beetlejuice doesn't happen... the original was fantastic. ..what happened to Jim Carrey?

Oh, I completely agree a thousand times over with rhapsodesia, Batman Returns is a sequal and it is AMAZING! I also agree with everyone who commented about casting and new audiences, I agree that it just wouldn't go over well.

i agree i thought that batman returns was a good sequel and it's not like he waited years to make it either...i'm sooo happy they are not doing a beetlejuice sequel.

beetlejuice 2 would be a bad idea. i agree that most sequals are crap apart from batman returns. but come on.. the movie doesn't need a sequal seeing as it would be boring as the first one ended good and finished completely. the second one would be boring coz it would just be them walking around and just be about some people that live happily with ghosts all together with no problems. which is basically how the first one ended. you don't need a sequal to that now do you.

What do you think about my idea of Tim directing Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven?

ManOfNothing said...

That would be a good movie. I would see it, but if he did the story on Ripley plus Edgar Allen Poe and with Ed Wood already it will seem like he's just doing biographies. But still a good idea.

yeah i dont think they could get a good story for a sequel. like sandoz said it ended and there is nothin to sequel.

I think I read somewhere that Beetlejuice 2 would be about Beetlejuice trying to get the now grown up Lydia to marry him. But I agree that would be a bad movie. And most sequels are crappy. I wouldn't know if Batman Returns is better than the first because I havn't seen either.

Edgar Allen Poe films would be kinda neat! He could get some influence from those Vincent Price movies he loves so much...Pit and the Pendulum and House of Usher were awesome movies...I bet Timmy would have fun with it :D

I also have an idea for an actor that Tim could cast that hasn't appeared in any of his movies, Terence Stamp. For anyone who saw The Haunted Mansion, he played the part of Ramsley.

I don't think a sequel would be a good idea either. Beetlejuice was a whole story in itself, to make a sequel he would have to think up a whole new storyline. plus, like someone's already said, they would need a whole new cast.
I'm sure Burton would find some way to pull if off if it came down to it, but i don't think its a good idea.
I'm actually really looking forward to what he decides to do about Ripley.

Just wanted to say Tim should've gotten that Oscar. Just sayin.

I agree.

Man no Beetlejuice 2? this sucks.i wanna se 50 something Micheal Keaton trying to make the gold he did in 1988. Now a good Burton sequel would be Nightmare Before Xmas 2.

Anonymous said...

And yes my fellow Burton fans i agree. He got robbed of that oscar. Pure Robbed!

I agree....Wallace and Grommit shouldn't have won. That movie SUCKED!!! Corpse Bride was waaaaay better.

whoa whoa
come on, wallace and gromit were good, I grew up with those guys
be nice now, okay :)

I'm not saying I don't like Wallace and Grommit I'm saying I didn't like the Wallace and Grommit movie. I do like them though.

I heard if they did a Beetlejuice 2, it would be Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian and he would follow the Deetzes to Hawaii where something would happen with this dead witch doctor or something... I read about it somewhere in the book Tim Burton's Garden of Nightmares, check it out if you don't believe me!

Anonymous said...

I remember reading that too somewhere on the internet but I don't remember the part about the witch doctor.

I think that Burton should make a Beetleguese sequal. We know he's an awesome director, but if he could put out a good sequal, it would make him an even better director. Then maybe he would be able to put out more movies. And that would be Sick.

Uh I don't think this one is going to come out on DVD considering it's not going to be made.

Sweeny Todd....Hmmmm....Strange musical, that. Johnny Depp used to be in a band, no? I've yet to hear him sing....Ah, but that might not work out, eh? As for Poe, I've been longing for Tim to do at least one animated film of his stories ever since I saw "Vincent" . He could handle that SO well. Finally , as much as I admire Mr. Burton , Nick Park did deserve that Oscar. The detail he puts into those characters' facial expressions...Incredible. Still, Tim needs no cheap little statue to tell him how brilliant and unique his films are. He needs no approval to do what he does. He's been true to his art and his passion right from the start and I admire him immensely for that. Keep the faith.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW WHY WOULD YOU USE THE ORGINAL CAST FOR BEETLEJUICE 2 YOU WOULD ONLY USE MICHEAL KEATON AND MAYBE ONE OR TWO OTHERS, ITS A MOVIE ABOUT BEETLE JUICE, I THINK IT WOULD BE A GREAT MOVIE I HOPE HE DOES IT AND USES KEATON. IT'S SHOWTIME!!!!!

In ones own opinon i would love to see a beetlejuice 2, thy grew up with both the film and the series.

Micheal Keaton must do it, he even said it him self it would be one role he would redo ONLY if the striped obsessed tim burton would direct it, isn't that a little ray of hope?

It's been so long since it was first made but wasn't that the same sanareo with the teenage mutant ninja turtles? again another ray of hope, but as one truly knows tim doesn't like doing sequels but deep down many many people are doing remakes for exsample Halloween, check your bus billboards. Thi would HATE! it if another director remade it.However a sequel by the same director i would vow for.

I say recast! And start fresh. I have thought about this for years, since I saw the Mask with Jim Carey I thought if Tim were to make a new beatlejuice all he would need is the comic appeal of Jim. Besides people have been screaming for Jim to come back in another role like that. And given the special affects of today, I think that could make a definite block buster, or two or three, kinda like the Pirates of the carabean movies and I know that Jim could play dark roles like that with a comedic twist. Jim would be awesome for the role, And with Tim at the wheel who knows how big it could get! Please Tim, make it happen, make it happen!!!
