Tim Burton's Stop-Motion "Addams Family"?

Deadline.com has stated that Tim Burton might be directing a 3D, stop-motion animated adaptation of Charles Addams comics, The Addams Family.

Illumination Entertainment, the Universal-based family film unit headed by Chris Meledandri (who has produced Ice Age, Horton Hears a Who, and is producing the forthcoming Despicable Me and Flanimals), has acquired the underlying rights of the Addams drawings, once a staple of The New Yorker magazine. Burton is reportedly being considered as a director by the studio.

Meladandri will produce the film. Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation will be executive producer. A writer will be hired shortly.

If these plans come to fruition, this new Addams Family movie will be the second stop-motion feature coming from Tim Burton. Burton is still directing his feature-length animated adaptation of Frankenweenie.

His 2nd stop motion feature? What about Corpse Bride? He directed that, I believe...

Interesting... but they've already made Addams Family movies and I'd like to see something new from Tim, even if it isn't his own original work - something like Big Fish that doesn't already have a big screen incarnation. I wish he as still attached to the Ripley movie... actually i wish he made that years ago with Jim Carrey as was meant to happen!

Okay, I can totally see these actors playing the characters:

Gomez Addams: Johnny Depp
Morticia Addams: Helena Bonham Carter
Uncle Fester: Wallace Shawn
Grandmama: Eileen Essell
*Wednsday: Imogen Poots
*Pugsley: Freddie Highmore

Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, Timothy Spall and Paul Whitehouse as new characters!

*In American Voices, of course! :)

Matt: Those sound like interesting ideas. But Burton has stated that there isn't any truth to the "Addams Family" adaptation claims (although they seemed rather convincing from the details):

To Matt, that sounds great! I also would love to see that with those actors and actresses and i would have never thought of Freddie Highmore to be as the boy. But i always thought Pugsley was kind of a big kid? I would love to see more Christopher Lee in his films, i just love his voice its so over powering...he just has an eerie gothic voice...and he's a great actor! It's just too bad we couldn't have Elvira do some with Burton...lol. Kudos.

Aw, i'm sorry Matt, but there is always a chance he might think about doing it after Frankenweenie. :)
