Excerpt from new edition of Burton on Burton

Real news this time, honest! Guardian Unlimited has Johnny Depp's new foreward from the book for you to read, where he discusses working with Tim on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, their shared fatherhood and more. Don't forget the new edition of Burton on Burton is available from Amazon UK.

It's not on Amazon.com yet, but it is planned to be released in the US sometime this year.

I love how decriptive Johnny is about his relationship with Tim. I can really see excatly how each of them interacts with one another. It's just great! I can't wait to buy the book...as soon as it comes out in America.

What an incredible connection Tim and Johnny have. Definately two of a kind. As for the book , I couldn't wait for it to come over here so I ordered the Brit version. What can I say? I love those guys.

This really has nothing to do with the subject at hand but Pete Wentz, the basist from Fall Out Boy is a big Tim Burton fan! I just thought that was interesting.

Lots of dumb punk bands like him. That's nothing new.

Well it was just a statment that I found interesting. And I'm a relatively new fan so I'm just learning things. And by the way, Pete Wentz likes him so much he has a ton of Nightmare Before Christmas tattoos. That's the first I've heard of any "dumb punk bands" liking him. Maybe that's just because I hate punk music.

I never metioned this before, but I'm a relatively new fan also. Last July is when I became a fan. It's funny. I didn't like him at first. Then I realized that his imagination is almost like mine. I went from hating him to loving him. Also, I've watched most of his films that I have missed out on. The only ones I haven't seen are Pee Wee, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks! and Sleepy Hollow.

Mars Attacks wasn't one of his better works as far as artistic merit goes. Still, it was fun for what it was. Sleepy Hollow was visually stunning and Johnny Depp , as usual , gave a performance that was uniquely his. As for Ed Wood , Depp gave a brilliant performance , interpreting Burton's vision flawlessly. The film , itself , was one of his best and is not to be missed.
OKay...I'm done gushing. See for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

I don't know what it is but I didn't like Ed Wood at all. I was so anxious to see it but when I did I thought it was agonizingly boring and way too long. I don't even know how long it was but it seemed very long. Anyway, it seems like everyone is disagreeing with me. Everyone always says what a great movie it is and how it's probably one of Burton's best but I just don't see it.

i hope i can buy it, now that i'm off to visit london...

Fair enough, annon....It's certainly a break from Burton's usual style. To each their own. I'm no authority on films and I certainly don't seek to dictate what people should and should not like in a film. Hope you like the other two you haven't seen.

The website hasn't posted this, so I'm saying it. It seems that Tim will direct Sweeny Todd with Johnny Depp in the lead once he finishes Believe It or Not, but I can't be sure. Also, in an interview this February, Tim nixed rumors of Beetlejuice 2, Edward Scissorhands 2 and The Nightmare Before Christmas 2. However, he has expressed intrest in directing an Edgar Allen Poe film soon. I had that same idea! I'm so excited!

Wow! That sounds cool!

The guy's definately not in the habit of making sequels and admire him for that. Johnny Depp in Sweeny Todd....Hmmm...I've been wanting to hear him sing....and that was quite a disturbing musical. Definately be seeing that one should it ever come out. Wonder where he's going to go with the Ripley's thing. As for Poe , he could definately pull that off. Animated version of The Tell Tale Heart...Depp in a live-action Fall of the House of Usher...The possibilities are irresistable.

wow this all sounds so cool. in my opinion de wood rocks. watch iiittttttt!!!!!!!!! and i'm getting the new burton on burton book for my b'day hopefully :). love u all. peace dudes.

Way back when, I heard somebody say that Tim should direct The Witches based on the Roald Dahl book.

deppthinker said...

Yes..., or the BFG...., or The Twits...He's proven with CATCF that he can do justice to Dahl's work. However, I was personally thinking more along the lines of Alice in Wonderland , which would be brilliant in the style of Nightmare Before Christmas. Also, considering that The Corpse Bride was , albeit loosely , based upon a Ukranian folktale , Baba Yaga would seem to be right down the same road. Then again , my mind could be wandering a bit too much lately...heh.

Loved the old one. Can't wait for his comments on Planet of The Apes, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride.

I have been looking for Burton on Burton for a wile now and the libarary in Marion just don't seem to have any on Tim Burton! Is there any libarary that has Tim Burton books close by?(Marion,Ohio)If anyone knows please respond back! Thanks!

Oh,and another thing,it does seem cool to have an Edward Scissorhands 2,The Nightmare Before Christmas 2,and Beetlejuice 2,but I do not want them to make 2nd's to movies because it always seems to ruin them that way.I hope they stick to the classic tale.I personally like all of those movies just the way it is espcialy Edward Scissorhands, but thats just my opinion.I really like how they let Tim Burton keep the story how it is because it is so sad,I think thats why so many people rember it so much because most movies have a happy ending and most people forget about them.So I hope they keep the story how it is!(But on the other hand,it would be nice to know what happens to Edward and the other movies)(But keep it as it is!)

No. No sequels of Nightmare, Beetlejuice, or Edward. No. Baaad idea.
