Amsterdam to Honor Tim Burton

Tim Burton will receive a career achievement award at this year's 24th annual Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival.

Director of the film festival director Phil van Tongeren is delighted to welcome Burton. "I consider him as one of the most remarkable, recognizable and innovative directors of our time," he said. During his stay in Amsterdam, Burton will give a public interview on his career and a selection of his films will be presented (which ones have not been officially announced yet).

The AFFF starts on April 9th and ends on April 20th.

god i love tim...

i do live in the us, redfox, but i was born and grew up in england (and i hate it here, mind you!) so i have to agree with ur statement that europeans do appreciate tim more than anyone else!

I live in the US and I know a few people including myself that adore Tim and his films. I will admit that the Academy Awards don't really give Tim what he deserves. Europe does give him more mantle pieces.

Yesterday I waited almost all day in front of the theater where you could get the free tickets for the interview... And with a few friends (and some new ones we made while waiting, haha) we were first in line! I'VE GOT THE GOLDEN TICKET!

Well, perhaps US people are way more used to the idea of meeting celebrities and idols, since they're all living in L.A. or N.Y., but for a Dutch guy like me it's really special! Wow, finally I'm gonna meet the man who made me realise I truly wanted to be a movie director...

You can imagine the state I'm in right now ;)

I wish I would´ve been able to answer your questions, az!ze, but unfortunately, I don´t know much either. I know it was as a surprise and a relief to the festival organisation when he finally gave is definitive ´yes´, but what he´s gonna do afterwards... Perhaps he will come to you home, az!ze ;)

And within a few hours he's signing my Big Fish dvd! I'm bouncing through my room right now :D

I'll let you know what it was like today! See ya!

WOW... I'm still trembling. It was absolutely amazing! :D

Yesterday, there was quite a row two hours before the signing session begun. Eventually, me and my friends were in the middle of the row, and slowly but surely, we moved forwards. At the bottom of a stairs, we had to wait, and ten people at a time could walk up the stairs. And there he was, sitting in a beautiful art deco room, and it was like entering his mausoleum. He, clearly, was at his ease and took his time to talk with fans and sign their stuff. I managed to give him a short film that I made, and he was very grateful for it and for the fact I was making movies. He supported me to keep doing that, I thanked him for his films, we said goodbye and I went crazy! :D

Then, there was a public interview, and he was really cool and funny and generous in his answers. I asked him a question, and he listened well and gave me a nice answer. Brilliant!

Afterwards, he gave a short introduction to a screening of Edward Scissorhands, and when he left, me and my friend jumped out of our chairs and almost chased him :p And we managed to take a picture with him! And again, he was supportive and friendly.

In short, it was a dream come true. Wow! I'll send some pictures to the Collective. :D

(And yes, az!ze, he's coming to your home :p)
