Jim Broadbent to join cast of Sweeney Todd?

The latest rumour about Sweeney Todd is that Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent, who was to star in the new movie version of Hairspray, will now appear in Burton's musical instead. Curiously, Broadbent will be replaced in Hairspray by Burton regular Christopher Walken. Read more about this story here.

  2. Interesting news, to be sure...though I would have liked to see Mr. Walken co-star in Sweeny Todd. He looked like he was having fun in Sleepy Hollow.

Anyone have thoughts on Broadbent's potential role??
My instincts say that he would play either the Judge or Pirelli.

  7. True, "bunners" :::smiles::: I'm sure Mr. Burton will find something for him in the near future..., I hope.

    I get a smile? ^_^

I think Jim Broadbent is good for a Tim Burton movie because he can play "big" roles, y'know?

  9. Just had to smile at the name, "bunners". Heh. Anyway, upon reading a bit more about Mr. Broadbent and recalling him in that loopy Monty Python film "Time Bandits", I must admit he's an excellent choice. But then, the actors chosen to be in Burton's films have always been spot-on. This is gonna be a good one. Seeing Johnny Depp as a singing , psychotic English butcher will be worth the price of the ticket alone. Can't wait !

Broadbent was in Moulin Rouge as well, so he does have musical film experience. I will probably have to wait a few years to see this though, since it most likely will have a restricted rating.

Jim's probably being considered for Judge Turpin. I really doubt he could be a good Pirelli as someone suggested- he's far too old and would need a VERY high singing voice.
I think he's a great actor so I hope this is legit.

Together with brilliant actor Johnny Depp, horror movie icon Christopher Lee must be in the movie too

It is fantastic to see Depp, Lee and Burton working together
