Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway will both be in Alice in Wonderland.
Bonham Carter will play the role of the belligerent Red Queen, and Hathaway will play the more placid and kindhearted of the royal sisters, the White Queen. The distinction of having both of these characters suggests that the film will indeed follow the original Lewis Carroll book instead of simply emulating previous cinematic adaptations.
This is the first time Anne Hathaway has collaborated with Tim Burton (though there was talk that she was considered for a role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as well).
Helena Bonham Carter has been in each of Burton's films since Planet of the Apes in 2001.
Awsome! But when I read about Helena's ole, I saw Red Queen and Anne Hathaway as White Queen. I am assuming that Helena is not exactly the queen of hearts but the red queen chess piece from the Looking Glass. Although, Tim might make her represent "the chess piece" but Idk.

ReplyDeleteIt's actually a very loose adaptation based on Through The Looking Glass. Helena's playing Iracebeth, who is essentially a Red Chess Queen/Queen of Hearts combination. She looks very Elizabethan and has a gigantic head that's shaped like a heart. Hathaway's role is very tiny.
ReplyDeletewell, it'd be cool if they'd make like alice in wonderland and alice through the looking glass as a whole, respecting everything that happens in each book.I'm very glad Helena Bonham Carter got the role of the "Red Queen".I'm not sure what the "Red Queen" means, but I'd prefer it if that meant the Queen of Hearts.If she's playing both Queen of Hearts and Red chess Queen it's fantastic!
