Finally some news on Burton's latest film. It's just been reported in the Chinese press that actress Gong Li, star of the upcoming Miami Vice movie, has been cast in
Believe It or Not, beating out another contender, Zhang Ziyi. It hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but

ReplyDeleteGong Li is just a name she is sometimes credited as. Her real name is Li Gong.
ReplyDeleteActually Gong Li is the Chinese order of her name (they say the family name first there). In the west her name is usually reversed, just as Zhang Ziyi has started to be credited as Ziyi Zhang.

ReplyDeleteNot at all. Jim Carrey has proven himself an extremely talented actor in every dramatic role he's played - The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... These are all absolutely brilliant performances, and they just go to prove that not only CAN he restrain himself, but he's also a very good dramatic actor. I'm not worried at all - in fact, I'm actually rather excited.

ReplyDeleteI think this movie is going to be very sucessful at the box office for a few reasons. This is Tim's second biopic after Ed Wood. Ed Wood was not a hit when it came out, but Tim got the best reviews of his career because of it. With that said, more people are sure to be welcome to Believe It or Not, including Ed Wood fans, Ripley fans, and Tim fans.

ReplyDeleteRecently, "Premiere" magazine ranked the 100 greatest performances of ALL time, Gong Li is ranked #89 on the list for her performance in the movie, "Farewell My Concubine".
One of my favourite songs is called Gong Li. It's by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. It doesn't even mention her in the song though. I didn't know she was a person!
