Burton Retrospective at LACMA in May 2011

The massive Tim Burton art retrospective will be coming to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The huge exhibition began in late 2009 at MoMA, and is currently in Melbourne. It will then move on to Toronto's Bell Light Box before coming to LACMA. The exhibition will be at LACMA from May 29th until October 31st, 2011.

Hahn on "Frankenweenie," "Maleficent"

Don Hahn of Disney recently spoke to Empire. Hahn discussed several forthcoming Disney projects (The Snow Queen, Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2, and the 3D re-releases of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King), including two titles that Tim Burton has been attached to: the feature-length, animated version of Frankenweenie and an in-development project called Maleficent. While there's nothing too big to announce, it's valuable hearing information on these two films from a Disney big-wig.

In the article, Hahn first mentions Maleficent. The live-action film would be the story of Sleeping Beauty told from the villain's perspective. Disney has reportedly attached Tim Burton on the project as possibly directing the film, and there are rumors that Angelina Jolie would play the title role (this has not been confirmed yet). Linda Woolverton is also attached as the screenwriter.


Rumors state that Angelina Jolie is being considered to play Maleficent in a new movie.

"That's another one I can’t talk about!," said Hahn on Maleficent. "All I can say is that it's in active development and will be pretty fun. It is great working again with Tim on Frankenweenie, though: I love that he's back to doing puppets. But Maleficent is a way off and it's a little too early to talk about it, except to say that it’s happening."

Don Hahn was recently in England, observing the status of Frankenweenie. The film is currently in pre-production, and is set to begin filming at London's Three Mills Studio very soon. Hahn will be serving as an executive producer.

Burton's Art Retrospective in Melbourne

Tim Burton made his first public appearance in Melbourne, arriving in preparation for the coming of his massive art retrospective at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

In a sold-out session of 400 eager fans, Burton said what some of his favorite movies were, and the ones he would take if he was lost on a desert island. These included Dracula AD 1972 and the original Wicker Man

''I wouldn't know a 'good' movie if it bit me in the face,'' Burton said. ''I don't seek these films out, but they're the ones I watch over and over again when they're on. Some people might say that's why I've made some bad movies - because I watch so many 'bad' movies.''

Burton will be staying in Melbourne for five days. On Thursday, he will be teaching a filmmaking masterclass, and will be screening his first feature film,Pee-wee's Big Adventure, on Friday. The sessions are already sold-out, of course.

The tremendous art exhibition at ACMI was originally curated by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, but comes to Melbourne with a significant proportion of new material mostly from Alice in Wonderland. The Burton retrospective runs until October 10.

Keaton, Davis Would Like "Beetlejuice" Sequel

Michael Keaton and Geena Davis recently said that if the opportunity ever came up, they would gladly take part in a sequel to Beetlejuice.

Keaton said: "Oh I'd do that in a heartbeat - absolutely, that's the one thing I'd love to do again."

He continued: "That's the only one I'd love to do."

Keaton then revealed that in 2005 he spoke to Tim Burton about the possibilities of Beetlejuice 2.



He said: "At one point, I had the conversation with Tim, saying 'I love this movie so much; I think there's one more in there somewhere.' And we both talked about it, and I think there was a script written once years ago that wasn't quite it. I would consider that, yeah, a lot. I would seriously consider that."

Geena Davis also said last month she would be keen to make a sequel to the movie.

She said: "It's funny, [another journalist] just asked me about a sequel to Beetlejuice - which, though I haven't heard anything about it, might be interesting. I would do that!"

The original Beetlejuice -- Tim Burton's second feature film -- came out in 1988. Wisely, Davis pointed out some technicalities that would exist with doing a sequel more than twenty years later.



Geena said: "Thing is, do ghosts age? Wouldn't we be stuck in the age we were? Alec [Baldwin] and I would have to look as we did then - who knows, maybe we could? I better get in touch with Tim Burton."

This of course does not mean that there will be a sequel to Beetlejuice -- just that two of its stars are still big enough fans that, if the event ever occurred, they would happily return to their roles.

In the early 1990s, an unproduced sequel for Beetlejuice was considered, but never came to fruition.
